In the premiere episode of Downtown Texas, host Daniella Powell shares the personal story behind the podcast and the journey that led to the creation of Kay Emm Studios.


Growing up in San Angelo, Texas, Daniella spent countless Saturday mornings exploring downtown boutiques with her parents—experiences filled with storefront lights, church dresses, small-town traditions, and the unmistakable feeling of community. What seemed like simple childhood memories would later shape her understanding of entrepreneurship, storytelling, and the role local businesses play in creating meaningful places.


After years of military life and traveling across the country with her husband, Daniella returned to Texas and found herself drawn to Historic Downtown McKinney. What started as a day of photography quickly sparked a new vision: helping local businesses tell their stories through creative marketing, photography, and content creation.


As she met entrepreneurs, artists, and community builders throughout downtown McKinney, she discovered something powerful—behind every storefront is a story worth preserving.


Downtown Texas was born from that realization.

In this episode, Daniella shares the memories, experiences, and inspiration that launched both Kay Emm Studios and a mission to document the people shaping Texas communities one downtown at a time.
